Fashion reveals stories of identity, innovation, and cultural expression through form, material, and craft. Museum Victoria’s Fashion Collection brings together garments and accessories that reflect changing tastes, technologies, and everyday life, each rich in charm, craftsmanship, and design legacy.
Join us for a guided digital drawing workshop inspired by standout pieces in the collection, including iconic dresses, millinery, footwear, and jewellery. These objects offer insight into the evolution of style and the creative practices of makers across time.
Using iPad Pros in the Learning Lab, you’ll explore the interplay of art, history, and technology while capturing the personality and flair of fashion across eras.

Drawing from the Vault invites you behind the scenes of Museums Victoria’s Preparatory Department, where science, art, and creativity intersect.
In this digital art class, you’ll draw from rarely seen preparatory models and specimens, from pinned crustaceans and taxidermy in progress to skeletons and moulded forms. These objects reveal anatomy, texture, and structure in ways public displays rarely show, offering rich material for close observation and a creative response.
Working on iPad Pros in the Learning Lab, you’ll explore digital drawing techniques such as layering, shading, and mark-making while responding to the material realities of museum practice. Inspired by the work of preparators who give specimens a second life, this class highlights the shared language between art and science.
Designed for all skill levels, Drawing from the Vault is a relaxed, immersive workshop for anyone interested in digital illustration, anatomy, and the hidden artistry of museum collections.
SPEAKERS
Marita Dyson is a Collections Manager in Museums Victoria’s History & Technology team, overseeing social history, fashion, and design holdings through conservation, documentation, and acquisitions. With over two decades’ experience, she also brings a multidisciplinary artistic practice spanning music, performance, film, and exhibition-making, enriching her approach to material culture and storytelling.
Steven Sparry manages Museums Victoria’s Preparation Department, leading a team of preparators who create models, replicas, and prepare taxidermy mounts, skins, and skeletons for collections, exhibitions, and education programs. With a background in science and experience as a preparator, his work sits at the intersection of scientific practice and skilled craftsmanship.
